An Ontology Construction Approach for retrieval of the Museum Artifacts Using Protege

Manoj Kumar Sharma and Tanveer J Siddiqui

CBIR is the dominant approach in image retrieval. However, it suffers from the well-known problem of ‘semantic gap. In order to overcome this limitation we propose the use of ontology. In this paper, we implement an ontology for the domain of Museum artifact to support semantic retrieval of museum artifacts. Protg version 4.0 is used for ontology creation and generation of Resource Descriptor Framework (RDF) schemas. The ontology is represented in RDF form. The retrieval process is illustrated with the help of examples

Keywords: Ontology, Protégé, Semantic Web, Visual Information, Information Retrieval, RDF Schemas, XML Scripts
